Adventure in Leh Ladakh

The lovely tourist destination of Leh Ladakh offers ample adventure opportunities. For the travelers to Leh Ladakh there are a number of adventure activities and sports to choose from.

Leh Ladakh is a trekker's favorite spot in North India. The treks from Spituk to the Markha valley and Lamayuru gompa to Chiling village alongside the Zanskar River are the most popular treks of the Leh region. Another trek path is from Likir to Temisgam. The best period for trekking is from the end of June until the middle of October. Proper acclimatization is necessary as many of the passes are as high as 5,000 m in altitude. Many trekking agencies in Leh Ladakh offer inclusive treks with a guide, packhorses, food and supplies. Trekking the Leh Ladakh region is one of the must dos for the adventure freaks.

Besides trekking, polo is also a popular pastime in Leh Ladakh. Polo as a sport has gained much popularity in Leh Ladakh and India, in the recent times. During summers, one can play polo on Tuesdays and Saturdays on the Polo ground. Regular matches and competitions are held during the Ladakh festival.

For the archers traveling to Leh Ladakh, the place is a must-visit. Archery competitions are held at the National Archery Stadium of Leh Ladakh. From July to September, the adventure freaks may also indulge in rafting in the Zanskar River that flows through the Leh Ladakh region.

Buddhist study centers have been set up at both Leh and Choglamsar. Summer meditation sessions are held at the Mahabodhi Meditation Center on Changspa Lane. These sessions are popular with the travelers to Leh Ladakh.
