Tourist Attractions
Agra, the heritage city of India is dotted with a number of tourist attractions. As you travel to Agra, you come across many marvels of Mughal architecture in and around Agra.
Amongst the most famous, important and often-visited tourist attractions in Agra is the Taj Mahal. Agra's Taj Mahal is the Mughal Emperor Shahjahan's tribute to his favourite wife's memory and his greatest contribution to world heritage monuments.
Then there is the tourist attraction of Jama Masjid in Agra. It was built in memory of Sheikh Salim Chisthi and his grandson Islam Khan by Jehanara Begum. It is the wonderful assimilation of Iranian architecture that attracts tourists from far and away.
Akbar's tomb at Sikandra, located in a large walled garden on the road to Delhi, is one of the other tourist attractions that must be visited while traveling to Agra. The tomb has a magnificent gateway covered with floral and geometrical arabesque decoration in white and coloured marble with four elegant minarets.
Besides the Taj Mahal, one of the other thronged tourist attractions of Agra is the Agra Fort, also called the Red Fort. The Agra Fort contains splendid palaces both in red sandstone and white marble built by two generations of prolific builders - Akbar, and later by Jehangir and Shahjahan.
The Tomb of Itmad-ud-Daula located in a walled garden overlooking the Yamuna, is amongst other tourist attractions not to be missed while traveling to Agra.
