Benaulim Beach in Goa

When you travel to Goa don't miss the opportunity to visit Benaulim Beach located less than 2 km south of Colva Beach. Benaulim is more peaceful and serene than Colva and the best thing about the place is that it is still rather undiscovered by domestic tourists even though it is a fishing beach. Just out of site beyond the palm trees is the Benaulim village. One wouldn't generally expect a beach to have strings of mythology attached to it but Benaulim is one beach that does. This is said to be the place where the arrow of Lord Parsurama landed when he created the state of Goa.

A lovely spot for beach holidays in Goa, Benaulim Beach is great for swimming and long beach walks. Walks or rides on the Beach Road through picturesque countryside 4 km to Colva are also equally enjoyable. The otherwise tranquil beach tends to get crowded on weekends when it attracts local picnickers. The main attractions of Benaulim Beach are the Dolphin Cruises offered here, which are reasonably priced and are definitely worth it as the chances of spotting dolphins prance about are very high. The Beach Bonanza Fair that is held on successive Sundays from mid-April onwards on the Benaulim Beach is a must for tourists who travel to Goa.

Benaulim is one of the few places where one can glimpse typical Goa handicrafts. The tranquil and charming village of Benaulim is famous for its rosewood furniture and the carvings that one finds on these pieces are really noteworthy. Bullfights can be seen at Benaulim from early October to late May. The bullfights are usually held in an old rice field with no fences or barricades just outside the village, to the beat of taped Konkani music. Situated atop a hill just beyond the village is the church of St. John the Baptist. This church is a wonderful example of typical Goan Christian architecture.

Being a prime tourist destination there are large number of hotels in the close vicinity of Benaulim Beach. The numerous hotels and resorts near Benaulim Beach provide the best kind of services and facilities. Moreover, there are a number of budget hotels along the Benaulim Beach catering to the needs of tourists who travel to Goa or are interested in exploring the scenic region around.
