Colva Beach
Charismatic Colva
Colva is an enchanting stretch of virgin white sands, palm fringed and sun drenched beach in the southern part of Goa. By far the most popular of South Goa beaches, Colva beach is to South Goa what Calangute is to the North Goa. For those who like to travel to Goa, Colva is not to be missed if you are looking for action. Colva has lots of them - resorts, shops, delectable cuisine and beach activities. For those who prefer more tranquil surroundings, there are smaller places to stay at within 20 minutes walking distance on either side of Colva beach.
But Colva, unlike Anjuna or Calangute, gained popularity only lately. It was little disturbed and life moved on quietly. But those are the things of the past. Over the years, many hotels and buildings have sprung from nowhere. It is developing at a good pace. There are a number of restaurants on either side of the road leading up to the beach and the numerous shacks on the beach provide less variety but equally good quality of food. Colva is only a 20-minute ride by bus from the town of Margao.
The Nossa Senhora de Merces (Our Lady of Mercy) Church is famous for its annual religious event - Fama of Menino Jesuse (Child Jesus), since the 17th century and a place to be visited if you travel to Goa. The Beach Bonanza fair is also something to be experienced. It is held on successive Sundays from mid-April onwards, where frenzy visitors in merriment participate in live music, dance, and other entertainment.
