Mani Bhawan
Mani Bhawan is one of the important places to visit during your travel to Mumbai. A memorial dedicated to the Father of the nation, Mani Bhawan used to be the Mumbai residence of Mahatma Gandhi, from time to time between 1917 and 1934. Located on the green Laburnum Road, a quiet lane named after its shady trees, it is from this famous house No. 19, called Mani Bhawan, that Gandhiji was arrested in 1932.
A pretty two storied building, Mani Bhawan now houses a reference library with over 2000 books, a photo feature on the Mahatma's life, some memorabilia, an old Gandhiji's old charkha or spinning wheel that he used to use and a film and recording archive. Today, its only a symbolic exhibit that lies unused, but many old Gandhians still visit the place to pay homage to their hero and demonstrate the noble art of spinning your own yarn. A must visit for vacationers to get a peek into the life of Mahatma Gandhi, if they are planning to travel to Mumbai.
