Raj Ghat
If you are planning to travel to New Delhi, don't miss the opportunity to visit the samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi (memorial of Mahatma Gandhi) at Raj Ghat. Situated on the bank of the legendary Yamuna River, which flows past New Delhi, Raj Ghat is the last resting place of the father of the nation.
On 31st January 1948, Mahatma Gandhi's last rites were performed over here. Apart from ordinary people, tourists, it has become an essential point of call for all visiting dignitaries to pay their homage to the Father of the Nation. The memorial is set in a garden with fountains and a variety of exotic trees.
The memorial stone is a simple square platform of black marble where his last words, "Hey Ram", are inscribed. The cremation spots of Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and Sanjay Gandhi are just a short walk away.
Two museums dedicated to Gandhi are situated nearby. The Gandhi Memorial Museum is just across the road. It houses many belongings of Gandhi and photographs from his life.
